Transpennine Express

 Newcastle to Liverpool, return

Newcastle station is very impressive

 and so is the bar.

A very successful day. The Transpennine train was pretty good, the only negative items being the lack of individual seat lighting and no visible rubbish bins.

It excelled at free food and drink. I had a decent salad for lunch, with beer, and a cheeseboard with wine on the return trip (the can is equivalent to a quarter bottle). They offered me another wine later, which I accepted but rejected the offer of a third can.

By my reckoning, this gives Transpennine a score of 70%

CrossCountry

Birmingham to Bristol return  The outward journey was smooth but the major problem with CrossCountry is that their windows block GPS signals...
